In 1901 an illustrated story called The tale of Peter Rabbit was published. It appeared without notice in a small edition published privately by it's author Beatrix Potter but the idea first came from a picture letter sent to Noel Moore, the son of her former governess, eight years earlier in 1893. Within a year it had been taken up by a commercial publisher and became an instant best seller. It and the twenty-two other little books that followed make up what is now one the most successful children's series in the world.

The Snowman books were written by Raymond Briggs in 1978 and since then, it has grown into one of the most well known and popular Christmas stories of all time.
